I want to tell you where it all began. I, Simon, knew West from high school; he was captain of the football team and an absolute beast in the weight room. I was captain of the soccer team but had barely ever stepped foot in the weight room. We never spoke one word to each other in high school. The universe works in mysterious ways…5 years later, it brought us back together for a reason.

It all got started during the 2018 summer solstice at our friend Chef Ian’s house. I was living at Ian’s (friend since kindergarten). His birthday weekend and the summer solstice lined up just right, so we threw a summer shindig. Another friend of mine, Jully, asked if she could bring her friend West. I said, “Hell West.” Hahaha jk. I said, “Hell yes,” and oh boy, am I thankful for that day.

We ate, drank, partied, and talked about working out. I told West that some of my bros and I built a garage gym that he could come over and use anytime. We started working out together every day. Grinding. Sweating. Gaining. We loved each other’s energy, and we helped build one another up. We became each other’s trainers. West and I then started personally training other people in our little space, and the garage gang was born. We called our training business “house of gains” because we were literally in a house making gains. There was more to it because we also liked the metaphor that our body is our “house” for life and that we need to take care of it and improve it when we can.

Later, as both West and I grew professionally, we noticed that our gains, and the gains of those we were training, were spilling into other aspects of life. We made improvements in our nutrition. We became more discerning in the information we consumed. We developed a sense of calm by adopting meditation and mindfulness practices. That’s when we re-evaluated our homegrown “House of Gains.” It had served well as a start, but our sense of mission had outgrown that name and metaphor. We realized that we had expanded our thinking and doing. So we changed our name to “Life of Gains.”

The mission is simple: Get better every day. That is a realistic and doable pathway for a great life. Everyone is different. We know everyone has their own best life to live, and we know we need to listen to ourselves to find out what that is. West and I are on a quest to find ours. We do it every day and we know this guide will help you. We invite you to join the Life of Gains team.

Let us know what you think about our guide and be on the lookout for motivational tips in the future.  We are here to help you lift your life.

Love Your New Fr-amily,

Simon and Wes
